With the growing emergence of technology in health care, a new role has also been defined, the role of the Chief Medical Information Officer. The importance of this role is equal to its c-level distinction. Adhering to the Hippocratic Oath for the practice of medicine with the enabling and supporting technologies of clinical systems represents a significant responsibility. This responsibility, when incorporating the performance measures and goals within a health care delivery system, adds an additional layer of both complexity and responsibility.
This forum seeks to provide a collaborative discussion to assist in promoting best practices in the adoption and application of clinical informatics. We look forward to promoting this vehicle for collaboration with the various constituents responsible for these health care technology initiatives with a primary focus on the clinical informaticist evolving into the CMIO role.
